《一生所爱》这首曲子是由导演刘镇伟所选，当时电影拍完刘镇伟本是按照爱情主题所选，而刘镇伟表示当时根本不知道周星驰已经和朱茵分手了。
该歌由卢冠廷夫妻档共同创作。在卢冠廷创作《一生所爱》之时，刘镇伟称这段爱情是五百年都没有结果的，卢冠廷整个鸡皮疙瘩就起来了，晚上回到家旋律就出来了。而唐书琛创作时，也是被“五百年的爱情苦海”所打动，只用了两个小时就完成了创作。
